The Jeep Wagoneer has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Armada doesn’t offer knee airbags.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Wagoneer’s optional Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Armada doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Wagoneer Grand helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Armada doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Wagoneer and the Armada have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, lane departure warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer for 5 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Nissan doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Armada.

There are over 2 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer’s warranty.

The Armada’s redline is at 60050 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Wagoneer has a 5800 to 6100 RPM redline.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Wagoneer has a standard 230-amp alternator. The Armada’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Wagoneer has a standard 830-amp battery (900 Grand). The Armada’s 780-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Wagoneer third among large suvs in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Armada isn’t in the top three.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Nissan With 4 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Jeep higher than Nissan.

The Wagoneer’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 20 more horsepower (420 vs. 400) and 55 lbs.-ft. more torque (468 vs. 413) than the Armada’s 5.6 DOHC V8. The Grand Wagoneer’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 110 more horsepower (510 vs. 400) and 87 lbs.-ft. more torque (500 vs. 413) than the Armada’s 5.6 DOHC V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Wagoneer gets better mileage than the Armada:

Regenerative brakes improve the Wagoneer 5.7 Hemi’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Armada doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Wagoneer’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Armada doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Wagoneer has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Armada doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Wagoneer has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Armada. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Jeep Wagoneer, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Armada.

For better traction, the Wagoneer has larger standard tires than the Armada (275/55R20 vs. 265/70R18). The Wagoneer’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Armada (285/45R22 vs. 275/60R20).

The Wagoneer’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Armada S/SV’s standard 70 series tires. The Wagoneer’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Armada Platinum’s 50 series tires.

The Wagoneer offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Armada’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Wagoneer’s wheelbase is 1.9 inches longer than on the Armada (123 inches vs. 121.1 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Wagoneer’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Armada’s (38 feet vs. 41.3 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Wagoneer Air Suspension has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Armada SL/Platinum (10 vs. 9.2 inches), allowing the Wagoneer to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the Wagoneer uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Armada doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Wagoneer has 24.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Armada (179.2 vs. 154.5).

The Wagoneer has .4 inches more front headroom, 4.2 inches more front hip room, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear legroom, 4.6 inches more rear hip room, 1.8 inches more rear shoulder room, 2.6 inches more third row headroom, 8.2 inches more third row legroom, 2.8 inches more third row hip room and 3.9 inches more third row shoulder room than the Armada.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Wagoneer’s optional second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Armada doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Wagoneer’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Armada doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Maximum trailer towing in the Nissan Armada is limited to 8500 pounds. The Wagoneer offers up to a 10,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The Wagoneer 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Wagoneer can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Armada can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Trailer Sway Control is standard on all models of the Wagoneer, using the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. Only the Armada SV/SL/Platinum offers a trailer sway program.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Armada SL/Platinum, the Wagoneer Grand offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, foot pedal distance, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Armada doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Wagoneer’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Armada’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The Wagoneer’s standard front and rear power windows all open with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Armada’s rear windows don’t open automatically. The Wagoneer Grand’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Armada doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Wagoneer to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Armada doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Wagoneer’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan only offers heated mirrors on the Armada SV/SL/Platinum.

The Wagoneer has standard front air conditioned seats and the Wagoneer Grand Series III also has them in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Armada doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Wagoneer has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Armada SL/Platinum.

The Wagoneer Grand has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Armada.

The Wagoneer’s optional ParkSense Automated Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Armada doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Nissan Armada by over four to one during 2022.
